Health app development

IE Digital builds innovative web apps for the NHS, health charities and other healthcare organisations.

Our work includes apps to empower patients to self-manage their conditions with remote monitoring for clinicians, and community apps to help patients connect with one another. All built with the user in mind to ensure a seamless user experience (UX) on any device – iOS, Android or Windows.

IE Digital was the supplier chosen by Public Health England (PHE) to create a 'kite mark' to endorse health apps.

IE has worked extensively with the NHS and has a wealth of experience in the health sector.

We created the new brand for University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, following the merger of two trusts.

For NHS Brighton and Hove CCG we delivered a sector-leading, CMS driven web solution to provide an effective communications tool for both CCG members and patients/external stakeholders. Social media is built into the fabric of the highly searchable site and users are encouraged to rate and comment on resources.

IE's other projects have included websites for Birmingham and Solihull NHS Care Trust, NHS West Midlands (WMQI and WMQRS), Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust; an intranet for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust; Moodometer app for 2gether NHS Foundation Trust; and the website and brand for The Strategy Unit, part of NHS Midlands & Lancashire CSU.

IE has again created a really vibrant, attractive, user friendly, engaging web presence... a pleasure to work with... not just creatively and technically excellent but thoroughly professional and well planned.

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust created ChatHealth – an SMS text messaging helpline that gives 11-19 year olds remote access to a school nurse.

With school nurses spread thin – only 1,200 school nurses for 200,000 schools – help can be hard to access. ChatHealth allows nurses to access messages from pupils via a secure digital system. They can respond to questions on a variety of health issues – from mental health and relationships to drugs and alcohol – with professional advice, while the system offers a range of risk management features.

IE was commissioned to design the look and feel of a mobile optimised, instant messaging app. This introduced improved security for users, allowing them to remain anonymous and conceal messages from prying eyes. The app also allows users to search for services based on location, so they can more easily access to specialist, relevant advice.

The service has been rolled out across many regions of the UK, supporting young people from as far afield as Suffolk, Sussex and the Pennines.

CW+ is a charity that invests in financially sustainable innovations, facilities and technologies, to improve clinical outcomes for patients at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and beyond. This includes several health apps per year.

CW+ commissioned IE to build an app to help patients recuperating from a hand trauma or surgery. The app allows clinicians to prescribe a bespoke programme of exercises for each patient – from a library of over 90 video demonstrations – to aid recovery from their specific hand injuries. Clinicians can bookmark relevant content using an intuitive favourites system, and schedule push notifications to help remind patients when it's time to repeat their exercises.

Although the project is primarily aimed at supporting staff and patients at Chelsea and Westminster, CW+ intends to keep it open to help other areas of the health service. It's also based on reusable components to provide a framework for building future apps more efficiently.

We are truly delighted with the app. As a clinician it has been brilliant to be able to use this in situ with patients as it's quick and easy to download and prescribe exercises. It making a real difference to the patient and therapist experience. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this project.
