University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service CHOICE app shown on a mobile phone

University of Southampton is a Russell Group University, ranked 8th in the UK for research intensity by the Research Excellence FrameworkWe worked with their audiology department, the Auditory Implant Service (AIS) to create CHOICE, a world-first application for the support and management of cochlear implant users.

There are more than 17,000 people using cochlear implants in the UK, and this number is rapidly growing. CHOICE allows patients to take care of their hearing health at home, reducing the need for regular in-person appointments at their cochlear implant centre, which could be hours away. Based on extensive research by the AIS team, IE Digital turned the CHOICE remote care service into an app, helping to deliver more accessible and equitable care, and more empowered and confident patients.

We also worked with the University of Southampton as part of the Southern Universities Network (SUN), to create the UniExplorer web app.

It has been a pleasure to work with IE Digital and I have learned a tremendous amount. I first made contact with IE at the UK Health Show. I was impressed with their excitement about the project and we took it from there! IE’s experience with health care sealed the deal for me.

The road to move an app from an idea to a tool used in the NHS has been challenging and exhilarating. IE have incorporated some of their ideas and have always listened to our ideas and thoughts … without bombarding us with tech speak. IE have been fully committed to the user experience and have always kept their sights on the ultimate end user: the NHS patient.

New website for UCD Innovation Academy

IE Digital created the dynamic new website for the UCD Innovation Academy, following a full rebrand. Read the website case study

Previously, we rebranded the Career Development Centre at University College Dublin, and designed and developed a new website for the renamed Careers Network. IE Digital carried out consultancy and stakeholder workshops to define site objectives, map the user journeys, and plan the information architecture etc., designing the end-to-end user experience and front end user interface, which was then implemented in the university’s Terminal 4 CMS. Read more about the UCD Careers Network website.

Having done all the strategic ground work in house to transform the Careers Network, we turned to IE to bring it all to life through our brand. They did a fantastic job of engaging and exciting the whole team and reminding us how great we are at what we do! They understood us, and exposed the value we deliver to our key audiences in an engaging and accessible way.

"The new website guides students through the actions they can take and the help they need. We love the vibrant new visual identity, and the brand guidelines, templates and collateral have made the roll-out easy.

    International student

With campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia, the University of Nottingham is a truly global institution, providing innovative and engaging education and producing world-leading research. It was the first British university to establish a campus in Malaysia, in 2000, and the first foreign university to open a campus in China, in 2004.

IE worked with the international recruitment team at the University of Nottingham to improve its online international student recruitment. We carried out quantitative and qualitative research into user needs – interviewing both international students and agents – and mined their Google Analytics data for insight. This led to the definition of user personas, and user journeys being recorded, re-shaped and iteratively optimised. IE's consultancy informed the work of Nottingham's in-house development team, who handled all information architecture and build changes.  We also provided user experience and creative design assets, generated within the strict confines of their CMS.

More recently we worked with the University of Nottingham again on the AgriFood Training Partnership website and brand

IE led us through a clear, streamlined process to enable all stakeholders to develop and adhere to success criteria, with clear outputs to help support buy-in.

    Open University interactive elearning

The Open University promotes educational opportunity and social justice by providing high-quality university education to all who wish to realise their ambitions and fulfil their potential. OpenLearn – is the OU's home of free learning.

IE Digital created bespoke, interactive learning content for OpenLearn to help learners to discover foundation-level content on topics of interest. It's designed to whet their appetites and hopefully encourage them to look at taking their educational journey further.

Supreme Streets: An Adventure Into Employee-Ownership is a standalone piece of beautifully-illustrated interactive content, designed and built by IE Digital. The Q&A-based activity illustrates how employee-owned enterprises are set up and run, as part of OpenLearn's Money and Management subject area.

We went to IE Digital with a brief to develop bespoke learning content... The idea elegantly evolved into a stylish and informative interactive feature. "Journeying through Wellbeing" combines storytelling with real-world examples, making it a valuable and rewarding learning experience for our OpenLearn audience. The team at IE Digital were professional, organised and clearly passionate about delivering high-quality learning. It was a pleasure to work with them on this project.

The Inns of Court College of Advocacy website by IE Digital

The Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) is the educational arm of the Council of the Inns of Court. They design and deliver a number of bespoke legal advocacy training and CPD courses, including a new two-part Bar Course.

As ICCA gradually moves towards delivering more of its learning content online, they realised their existing website wasn't up to the task. IE Digital designed and built a new WordPress website, creating a platform to host ICCA's legacy content and support the search and retrieval of new digital learning materials. It's also future-proofed for any integration with e-learning platforms in the future.

IE's designers created a modern new visual identity with a premium feel, including a set of ‘digital brand’ guidelines. We updated the logo to reproduce better online, and added a prestige colour palette, a bespoke icon set and pattern, and beautiful photography taken on location at the College with real students and practitioners. We also created various pieces of core collateral and templates to support ICCA's marketing team.

Working with IE Digital has been a very positive experience. They quickly understood what we wanted to achieve and the development process went extremely smoothly. The result is a website which not only looks great, but is thoughtfully designed and easy to administer. We are looking forward to a long and productive partnership!

University College of Osteopathy website on a laptop

The British School of Osteopathy became the first specialist osteopathic institution in the world to award its own degrees. This necessitated a name change to reflect their new University College status, and a confident new brand to make the most of this unique status. IE Brand worked with stakeholders to rename and rebrand the University College of Osteopathy (UCO).

Meanwhile, the IE Digital team developed a new website for the University College and its clinic. Following stakeholder consultation, it became clear that the clinic should have its own website, so two new sites have been designed and developed in parallel to accommodate the different customer journeys, while maintaining strong links and a consistent look and feel across the two.

IE has led us expertly through a significant rebranding project, engaging with key stakeholders and ensuring buy-in at every stage. We’re delighted with our new visual identity and how IE has brought it to life online.

CampusExplorer 8-bit game part shows students what university life is like. Part of the UniExplorer app for Southern Universities Network.

The Southern Universities Network (SUN) is a partnership between several universities and HE providers in the south of England (Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight). Based at the University of Southampton, SUN aims to ensure that state-funded secondary schools and colleges in the region know how to access widening participation and outreach activities and resources.

To support the SUN programme, IE created the UniExplorer website. UniExplorer is an interactive, tablet-based tool for school-leavers featuring a virtual university campus. Students can explore different aspects of going to and studying at university, to help with the transition to college and university.
